Pilot Report 3 August 2004

Day 7

Joining up before the start was good

Weather was better than expected although it was dead in some areas. Task was well chosen today.

We noticed that the overdevelopment was in the same area as yesterday, this might be the influence of the Elbe river.

There was streeting and we had to jump across streets sometimes tracking at 90o to avoid over development.

Tried to stay in contact with "the" gaggle but lost contact after a while because they were gaining height on us in the glides (problem with flying an older generation glider).

When starting on the second leg, it was hard to decide if we should go to the right or the left. There were some wisps which might start up, but decided to dogleg again to where the clouds were developed rather than waiting for these to form.

Separated before the first turn, Turns followed the gaggle, Trotts took a slightly different track which worked and they caught up at the turnpoint.

The run home was good after second turn there was streeting most of the way at least 50km, gained 300m to come up on final glide.

Happy with speed achieved -- probably only a couple of places where we slowed down when we maybe should have pushed harder.
