Practice Day 2: 29 July 2005

Today was tasked and our pilots launched but conditions were extremely hot, approx 37°C - 38°C and very humid for a South Australian like me (not so unusual for the Queenslanders).

The day never really got going and most people, did fly away from the airfield.

In the evening there was a "Come Together" party where there was an official welcome from some of the local poiticians and a story book character called the Krabbat (I think) who overcame working for the devil and sometimes assuming the form of a raven, to help people -- a bit like Robin Hood.

As the evening progressed, a thunderstorm brewed and we could see flashes on the horizon. It got quite wild and some damage was sustained to a privately owned powered aircraft and a wooden shed.

The next day there were reports of storm damage on the radio and part of the autobahn was damaged by the rain. Many campers were drying out bits of bedding and tents.

Michael Conway, who was in a tent out the back, managed to sleep through the whole thing and commented the next day that he didn't think it had rained much because he hadn't heard anything!
