Day 6: 10 August 2005

After several days of no flying, had another attempt at a contest day.

The pattern has been the same for the past few days, We hear the loudspeaker announcement "Briefing has been delayed until 11:15, please do not put your gliders on the grid before briefing."

Then we hear that the weather is not wonderful but there is a small chance of a task in between the next trough/front or low.

We grid and sit for ages in weather that is similar or worse than Adelaide winter weather (especially given the reports of 5500' thermals at Adelaide Uni or 8 knts to 8000' at Kingaroy).

The other day they launched club class then held the rest of the grid while they struggled to remain airborne. They eventually started, but 15m and Standard Class were cancelled on the grid. All but 3 outlanded, shaking up the scoring. Swaantje is now second in the aggregate so we need another contest day for her to regain the lead.

Yesterday, they launched Standard Class and all but 1 landed back on the airfield for a relight. The one that didn't landed out because it was windy and she had drifted too far away trying to get to the start point, to make it back to the airfield.

Today, 15m and Standard Class are launched while Club Class is held on the grid. There is an approaching cold front that we hope to fly the task ahead of but at the time of gridding its 150km North and approaching faster than hoped.

Standard Class started first and by the time 15m Class had launched, the front is visible.

Club Class launched after being held for over an hour, but their class was cancelled in the air.

The girls headed north while we listened on 120.850. They made almost 70kms before finally being forced to land at Cottbus Drewitz in pouring rain.

Our planned BBQ was cancelled. The girls found dinner on the road while we went to the local Thai in Bautzen.
